The French Riviera is also known as The Cote d’Azur. It acquired the French name from a book by Stephen Liegard but the English name is from its counterpart the Italian Riviera. Like the inhabitants, the boundaries have changed quite a bit over time. Cannes is located on the Riviera and has the perfect weather for sightseeing. The climate is made up of warm, hot, and dry summers. The average temperatures at this time are 25 degrees though they could rise up to 30 degrees although there is a cool breeze in the evenings from the sea that keeps the inhabitants and tourists cool. Winters are cold and wet with temperatures dipping to 10 degrees. The winter lasts from December to February. Autumn tends to be as cool as does the spring season but it may be too cool for those used to the warmer tropical climate.

The individual could walk, take a car, bus, train or ferry depending on their desire. In La Corisette there are many things to suit any tourists fancy. Cannes has a tiny, forested island known as St Margaruite where sightseers can see various shipwreck discoveries. There are also Roman and Saracen ceramics on display. This island also holds the cell of the man in the iron mask who was a prisoner of several prisons during King Louis the 14th’s reign. He is believed to be of noble blood but no one to date has ever been able to determine accurately exactly whom he was. It took him 11 years to get off the island and his cell was renamed the Museum of the Sea. Other museums in the city are also worth visiting. These include the Museum of Art and History which 18th century mansion houses historic artifacts dating from the prehistoric era to the present. The other museums are theme based whether on perfumes, photography, marine life, and so on and are worth the visit.
